About the event

The Liberty Tree Program is one of the official programs of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.


The SAR have established an initiative to plant 250 Liberty Trees across the nation by July 4, 2026, and are encouraging individual State Societies and Branches to engage in the program. The Roger Sherman Branch of the Connecticut Society SAR (CTSSAR) is proud to participate and bring this reminder of the sacrifices of the American Revolution to our communities in Fairfield County.


The original Liberty Tree served as a rallying point in Boston for the nascent revolutionaries as they reacted to the Stamp Act, setting in motion the chain of events that would lead to the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.


Planted in 1646 near the Boston Common, the stately elm was almost 120 years old when…
