With a focus on Impressionism, ArtScapades will look at how gardens and flowers played an important role in the works of artists throughout history, including Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klimt, Wassily Kandinsky, and Henri Rousseau, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt, and Vincent Van Gogh.

We’ll eat and chat at 12:30 and lecture at 1 pm. Our lecturer will be Jodi Stiffelman from ArtScapades. More about ArtScapades below.


The lecture:

Gardens, trees, and flowers can represent the beginning of life, symbolize love and passion, and perhaps most fundamentally, relay a space of comfort and hope.  With a focus on Impressionism, ArtScapades will look at how gardens and flowers played an important role in the works of artists throughout history.


This lecture will touch on works by Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klimt, Wassily Kandinsky, and Henri Rousseau, and will then look more closely at how flowers and gardens were captured in the works of Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt, and Vincent van Gogh.


Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998 in Connecticut in the New Canaan public school system.  By popular demand,  in 2010 they began sharing their knowledge with adults who wanted…
